Location: Abbotsford, BC
Reports To: Fleet Manager
Job Type: Full-Time
Schedule: Monday to Friday, with rotating on-call responsibilities as required

Position Overview:
Clearway Rentals is looking for a dependable, hands-on, and mechanically inclined Fleet Assistant to support the day-to-day maintenance, inspection, and readiness of our diverse rental fleet.
Our fleet includes cars, SUVs, vans, pickup trucks, 3-ton and 5-ton moving trucks, including vehicles equipped with power tailgates and other commercial equipment.

The ideal candidate will have practical mechanical knowledge, strong troubleshooting skills, and a proactive approach to keeping vehicles safe, reliable, and rental-ready. This role is well suited to someone who enjoys working with vehicles, solving problems, and working in a fast-paced fleet environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform routine inspections and maintenance checks on fleet vehicles, including:
    • Fluid levels.
    • Tire condition and pressure.
    • Lights and electrical components.
    • Safety equipment.
    • General vehicle condition.
  • Identify, diagnose, and troubleshoot minor mechanical concerns across a wide range of vehicle types.
  • Complete minor mechanical repairs and adjustments to help minimize vehicle downtime.
  • Inspect and assist with the maintenance of 3-ton and 5-ton trucks, including power tailgate systems.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance scheduling and ensure vehicles are made available for required servicing.
  • Report major mechanical, safety, or maintenance concerns to the Fleet Manager promptly.
  • Safely move, transfer, and reposition vehicles between Clearway locations, service facilities, and other required destinations.
  • Assist with roadside or after-hours breakdown situations as part of a rotating on-call schedule.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance work, and repairs completed.
  • Ensure tools, equipment, and work areas are kept clean, organized, and properly maintained.
  • Assist the Fleet Department with other operational and vehicle-related duties as required.

Qualifications:
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence with a clean driving record.
  • Previous experience with vehicle maintenance, mechanical work, fleet operations, or a similar hands-on role.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot basic vehicle-related issues.
  • Experience working with commercial trucks, including 3-ton and 5-ton trucks, is considered an asset.
  • Experience with power tailgates or similar hydraulic equipment is an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to vehicle safety and quality.
  • Organized and able to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Comfortable working independently as well as part of a team.
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Reliable, dependable, and willing to take initiative.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities may change throughout the day.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Comfortable working around, underneath, and inside vehicles when required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work on your feet for extended periods.
  • Ability to safely operate a variety of vehicles within the fleet.
